![]() For one, the 3D collectathon-style of Mario games in the vein of Super Mario 64 had become the norm for that subseries, making 3D Land a rather jarring change of pace. Currently, however, the game is somewhat forgotten for a variety of reasons. If it had been released in 64's place, it likely would have still received great reviews, with many hailing it as an impressive transition into a new dimension that kept the core mechanics in place. Even when continuing to focus on the mainline platformers, there is no shortage to pick from on either side of the aisle.As such, Super Mario 3D Land was much more of a sequel to Super Mario World than Super Mario 64 ever was. And so, it seems fitting to reinvigorate this list of the most notably tough and simplistic Mario titles. ![]() ![]() This, coupled with a smattering of new game releases, such as Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, has kept this series shining brightly in the Mario galaxy.
